I am completely cranky because I skipped uni today to wait for a call from the BBC lady which hasn't actually arrived yet and therefore am still in my PJs because I spent the day thinking "Well, if I get in the shower now then she'll probably ring", and now I know it's too late for her to ring but I can't be bothered to shower and get dressed when I just don't really want to go out and be sociable tonight. So instead I will have a rather large rant about something I've come across today; Torchwood Hate Communities. Specifically character related ones.
Now, I'm all for people not liking characters. But there's people making comments about a certain female character who's not Tosh, along the lines of "Why doesn't she just DIE?", and also bashing Eve with it, which I think is completely unacceptable. Things that really annoyed me;
1. This group was complaining about an interview Eve did talking about the new series and saying how her relationship with Jack had changed. She said something about how there was a bit more UST between the two of them in season 2 and there were people going "Now I hate Gwen AND Eve even more". Bearing in mind this interview was before the season even started, surely EVE BLOODY MYLES knows the character better than you do, and therefore knows her story through the series? What gives these people the right to say they hate the ACTRESS for having an opinion on her character.

2. The main reason these people seem to dislike Gwen? They're predominantly Jack/Ianto shippers. I swear, it really is THE PAIRING THAT SWALLOWED BLOODY FANDOM. The Jack/Ianto shippers, it appears, hate Jack/Gwen because it's not their precious Janto and therefore it's all completely wrong. At the end of the day, guys, it's JACK! As Steven Moffat once said "Jack's theory on things is 'It's got a pulse, does it have a telephone number?'"...deal with it. If we all hated characters that got in the way of our pairings then we'd be buggered-I'm a Ianto/Gwen and Ianto/Owen shipper, which are two of the most minority pairings in this fandom, but I don't dislike Tosh or Jack or Rhys for any relations they may have which might get in the way of either. And do you know why? Because I'm a GROWN UP!

I understand that people might not like Gwen, and that's fine-but channeling ones energy into actively hating someone to the extent that these people do? Pathetic. At the end of the day, the writers and people who are making the show know what they're doing a hell of a lot more than a bunch of 17 year old girls writing fanfic, and if they don't like the way the characters are being handled, then don't watch it; that's your choice. What's complaining about it on somewhere like LJ going to help?

First one I've been around for since KKBB-excitement!
Guys, this is a Torchwood reaction post containing spoilers for "Meat". Look away now if you want to avoid the spoiler fairy

Aka "'The Blob that I loved' by Jack Harkness".

Nice episode. That's all I can say really. Not "Excellent", not "Bad", just the wettest word in the history of all the world. It just seemed like a gap filler really, and only really served to tell Rhys about Torchwood.

I will, however, say this. Effing kudos to Kai Owen tonight. He was just absolutely amazing, so he was. The scene with him and Gwen when she told him about Torchwood was just amazing-the energy was just spectacular, and Kai and Eve played it really well.

GDL was excellent tonight as well-punching and stungunning his way to being my new favourite action hero! And they're just writing him SO well this season-I liked his "We could release a single" line, and also the bit where Jack said something and I can't remember what the hell it was, which shows how good I am, but he goes "Yeah, you are a bit", and it was good. And he LOOKED scrummy yumboes. That coat. And the bit with the waistcoat? Shag me sideways and call me Freda, I liked it

Was it just me or was there rather a lot of alternative pairing going on this episode? There was Jack/Rhys and a little bit of subtle Ianto/Rhys, and even a bit of Owen/Rhys at one point. And my original and best slash pairing, Ianto/Owen, of course. Ianto looked scrummy in that coat, so I FAIL to see how anyone could not look at him and think "I'd hit that". (Katie, come on, even YOU must have felt something then!). Oh, and I read a bit of Gwen/Ianto again this episode (the bit where Gwen finds out Ianto and Rhys have been captured, she gets panicky, it's ASSUMED over Rhys but she never says. Huh? Huh? Nope, just me? Ah well) I'm still completely convinced there will be explicit Owen/Tosh at some point, which I LIKE! I will come to this momentarily though

I'm not sure if I liked the ending. I was sad about it being killed at the end, even though as Owen said, it was a mercy killing. I just wonder if there was some way of saving it. Poor Jack though, he got all attached to it. I want to make some sort of joke about how Jack likes the big girls best (of which I am one =P), but it does seem inappropriate...

Oh, and Owen/Tosh-how sweet was the bit at the end where he was upset and she was looking after him. Although, as I said to someone I was texting (It was either Katie, Natz or Kelly, but I had to clear my outbox-too many texts!), Owen is a clueless idiot-come on, Tosh is asking you out and you don't realise it?! *sigh*. Am I just going to have to draw you a diagram Owen? Silly mongoose.

And I've basically worked out the entire plot for next week's episode. Aren't I just the cock of the walk? Better get my BBC3 back for next week, because I do NOT want to miss the return of the Marthaaaaaaaaaaa (They're showing 2x05 on BBC2 then 2x06 on BBC3 straight after. Yays! Just to be safe, I am procuring the use of my sister's digibox for a whole week, because I'm gonna be home 2 weekends in a row. I just hope they're not gonna be doing this with every blooming episode!

Thought for the day: With all the fangirls (and boys) who watch Torchwood, dya reckon there's enough of us to cause a power surge going to make a cuppa and then turn on the computer to do a reaction post after Torchwood?

Guess who's back?!
And first, I am going to be doing my Torchwood review, before I read everyone elses. Because I don't care what anyone else thought about it but...

I LOVED IT! I actually loved it with every fibre of my being

James Moran, my heart belongs to you. YOU WROTE SNARKY IANTO! Your Ianto made me smile SO much "Mobiles, Telephones, Tin Cans with pieces of string...hello, hello, hello...there's noone there, because THE PHONES AREN'T WORKING". ILU! And that bit where he's in the wheelchair was brilliant.

Oh yeah, and as a Gwen/Ianto shipper, I feel SO, SO, SO HAPPY that there was a nice little scene with the two of them. I had ACTUAL squealing, rather a lot, and it was fun. I need to find the screencaps of that, and if anyone can provide them I will give them a million pounds, or this bucket

This story just had so much going on-it seemed to go on for a while, but in a good way, a way that kinda made it seem more like a film than an episode of Torchwood. It held my attention really well and I liked that.

However, the squicked out side of Little Miss Gems was SO not liking the arms. I get really freaked out by tattoos on faces and stuff, like Toby in The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit, but I also get really really scared of serious scarring and stuff like that-I'd seen the bit where they used the probe on her arm and it started up in the trailer, and it squicked me out then, but it just got ten times worse when more people started doing it, and I got ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED. I actually hid behind my blankie. Twas horrible. Yes, I keep a blankie handy for hiding behind during Torchwood. It has to be done

And looking to next week-is that solider the guy who was in Emmerdale? I'm fairly sure it is =D. S'looking good!

Torchwood Review: 2x01-Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang

ANDYYYYYYYYYY! PC ANDY IS BACK! MY LIFE'S WORK IS COMPLETE. "Another one of your spooky doos, is it?"...and I liked it when he was all "Thanks Andy...no problem Gwen"...I heart him. I HEART HIM SO MUCH!

And RHYS! RHYS YAYS! I love Rhys. I really do. Can I get me a Rhys on the NHS please? Y'know, just for post-Essay writing, and to cook me meals and stuff? Please?

OK, now is the time for Srs Bzness.

Everything about this episode was just...wow...I thought it was well written, I thought it was much better acted than series 2. It was funny ("Bloody Torchwood"), it was sexy, it had violence, but it was well done violence. I thought Captain John was just sheer brilliance on a stick. I never watched Buffy, so I didn't know who he was, but my gosh he was brilliant.

I would not have guessed the plot if you'd given me a million pounds...or this bucket. Seriously, I did not see the whole 'Diamond' thing coming, and I loved the twist with the DNA latching on thingimy whatsits. AND I love that Owen, in effect, saved the day. For me, it just makes me love his character that little bit more. And, in some respect, probably earned him some kudos after his behaviour at the end of series one.

I also liked the way that Jack came back in to the team-I liked how Ianto was a little pissed off, how Gwen was a LOT pissed off, and I also liked how it appeared that Gwen had taken over in the time when Jack was away. Fandom has a lot of hate for Gwen, but I like her, and I like that she wasn't afraid to stick up for herself against Jack, and that she wasn't afraid to take charge.

And the Jack/Ianto stuff-can I just say, I'm not keen as a pairing. They appear to have swallowed the fandom, as evilgeniuslady once put it, and I don't like that. But I do like that they're most probably going to be a proper couple now, because I do like Ianto and he deserves to be more than a casual shag. And also, there was Ianto hip!porn. Which I liked.

And that trailer at the end-EXCELLENT! There is so much to look forward to this series.
Although, I have just had a genius thought (and forgive me if this has already been mentioned in spoilers or whatever and I've just missed it)-the mysterious Gray that Captain John mentioned-~~Jim Dale~~ ALAN Dale maybe? I haven't heard too much about his character, but then again I've not kept up with spoilers, so I dunno.
I have to say though, my favourite bit of the trailer was the bit where they were talking about the end of the world:
Ianto: It's the end of the world
Owen: Lets all have sex
Ianto: Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse

I know that there is so much I have left out of this review. But I am lacking in coherent thought right now. There is just too much squee in my head (That, and I have an essay due tomorrow. And I watched Torchwood instead. This is why I will most probably fail my degree...)

But, on a final note...

I HAVE SO MUCH LOVE FOR TORCHWOOD. I DO, I DO, I DO!

I might have to go watch it again.

This is quite possibly the most important Livejournal post I will ever, ever, ever, ever, ever make. So pay attention boys and girls...
For those of you new to my friendslist, I have a slight obsession with the Doctor Who episode "The Girl in the Fireplace". And when I say slight, I mean extremely large and slightly scary. I'm halfway through watching it for the 45th time, quoting the dialogue, as I do, and I notices this. This is just after he's kissed Reinette and is running around going "Reinette Poisson? Later Madame D'etoiles, later still Louis the 15th, Uncrowned queen of France? Actress, artist, musician, dancer, courtisan. Fantastic gardener!". When he says the bit about her being a fantastic gardener, he does this:

Point The First-Characters
Jack: Bless. I felt so bad for Jack, with the whole assisted suicide thing, but I think they could have made more of that. But they were too busy with Owen being a manslut...
Oh, but the references to DW, and him falling through time-BRILLIANT!
Gwen: Bless. I like that they still have her relationship with the LOVELY BRILLIANT FANTASTIC Rhys going on, and they were all loved up. It's just gonna make that scene next week soooo much worse!
Owen: Manslut. But he has a heart. Bless him. Did I mention I love Owen? And I cried a little too. Bless him *hugs Owen*. And I'm rewatching it now, and I just noticed-Owen, yet again, mentions that he's a Doctor in his introductions to a woman he later shags (he did the same with Gwen)...reckon he thinks the ladies love him more if he tells them he's a doctor. But they put him in a tux, and dear goodness I am partial to a man in a tux, I really really am
Ianto: BANANAS! Ianto was SUCH a dentist in a former life as well. I love Ianto, I do, I do
Tosh: Was she even IN this episode?! She may has well have not been =P

Point the Second-Plot
Wow. Blooming loved it. Favourite episode ever. I thought the bits with Emma and the 2 teenage girls, and in the nightclub, were really cool, and a lovely contrast to the bit at the start when she's unpacked her teddy and she's crying. Shows how well acclimatised she became to the surroundings. In fact, I really like Emma in this episode. Bless her. Didn't really like Diane though, she was too busy manslutting it up for me to get to like her as a character. I thought the character development of the regulars was interesting too-it's the first time we've seen Owen as a caring person, really loving someone. I reckon his feelings for Diane were partly transferred from his feelings for Gwen, but I can never be sure. My favourite bit for comedic value HAD to be the supermarket scene, so brilliant...yayness!!

Point the Third-OMIGOSHSHIPPEHNESS!
Curse Owen. Curse him to all bejiminy. Manslut. I love him, but he manslutted it up and DENIED HIM AND GWEN DAMMIT!!! Apart from that there wasn't all that much loved up stuff this week, but oh well.

Point the Fourth-Rhys-watch
Well they definitely brought Rhys back. With a vengeance. Wowwwww. Nekkid Rhys. I love Rhys, but did we really need to see that. He does have a NICE ARSE though

Point the Fifth-Next week
Looks good. Owen in a suit. Weevils. S'Noel Clarke's episode ain't it? I think it could be really, really good. Poor baby Weevils getting hurted by the big bad men. And they mention the Darkness again. And as everyone knows...

Point The First-Characters
Gwen (Since she was the only one actually really IN the episode): Bless. Where was Rhys this episode by the way?! She was sleeping on his side of the bed, and Eugene was on hers (You know you're obsessed with TW when you know which side of the bed Gwen and Rhys sleep on). [Edit: OK, so maybe she was in a Travelodgey thing, but it's still the same, still his side of the bed!!) But yeah, she only annoyed me slightly. Which is good, because I thought she would annoy me more. But she didn't

Point the Second-Plot
There was a plot to this episode? It was bloody awful. It was all "Ooh, I can't remember, but I'm dead, and there's an eye, and I swallowed it, and I took photos of shoes". It was very "Love and Monsters"esque, with the 'not-very-much-of-the-regular-characters' thing. I just really, really, really, really, really didn't like it

There was still no shippy stuff, not really. Gwen and Owen arguing was about as close as we got. Did I mention I didn't like this episode

Aiiiiiiiiii IT LOOKS SO GOOD! It's got Sugar Rush girl in, right? Owen=Manslut. Dammit, I think he sleeps with that other random bird. And that makes me NOT HAPPY. But it looks 10 times better than this weeks. Which isn't hard

OK. I hate Annoying Quatermass Woman. I really do. And she TOTALLY shagged Owen. But comprehensiveness is good. So, here we go with the properness and the order.

Jack: Bless, he obviously really cares about Gwen. It was so lovely when he was saying that Suzie better not have killed her. And, to me, their relationship doesn't seem like a sexual thing, which is lovely
Gwen: Wow. Brilliant acting from Eve Myles this week, she did a great job IMO. Not a lot to say really, just that I liked it
Owen: He shagged Suzie. I lost all respect for him (Still hot, mind)
Tosh: Meh. She was hardly there. With the exception of the computer stuff, she may have well not been. Oh, and the glove shooty. But that doesn't count
Ianto: Risen Mitten. Life Knife. Stun Gun. LMFAO. *giggles at TW website..."Cute suit"*

Point the Second-Plot
I laughed. It was FUNNY. It really was. I still don't like Annoying Quatermass Woman. (By the way, did anyone pick up the Quatermass reference? Briscoe? Just me? *Skulks back into the Geek corner of the internet*). And I thought it really worked. Suzie is horrible though, she really is )Although I can't stand Indira Varma, so I'm predisposed to not liking her, I guess). I thought that the 2 guys who wrote tonight's episode did a really immense job on it. Happy Gems =D

Point the Third-OMIGOSHSHIPPEHNESS!
Gwen/Owen-Not a lot to say this week. I thought the bit on the random pier was cute, when he was all huggy with her after Suzie died. And with the glove bit when they'd just brought her back and he went and looked after her.
Owen/Suzie-I am unhappy about this. Very, very unhappy. Tis WRONG. Bad Uncle Rusty, BAD!
Jack/Ianto-Hahahahahah! I didn't get what they were on about for a few seconds, and then it was like "Ohhhhhh, yikes!". I bet they were secretly seeing whether Dominos really do deliver in under 30 minutes...or something like that...
Did anyone else feel like the stopwatch thing was like bad Slash!fic come to life? It just didn't work for me...

Point the Fourth-Next week
No Rhys for 2 weeks now (At least Gwen still remembers his name). I want Rhys. A Rhys is for life, not just for episodes 1 through 6. Make me happy, give me Rhys next week. Oh, and Eugene? Coooooool looking episode. Why does everyone love Gwen though? Poor Tosh. Just cos Gwen's prettier, everyone loves her. Remember kiddies, true beauty comes from within, and if men can't see that then you should shag a woman in an alien

Jack: How much did I want him to kiss Tosh?! Did anyone else catch the "What are you?" "I don't know" thing? Or did I maybes imagine that?
Gwen: Immense. The whole "Don't look at her" "Why isn't he looking at me" thing was brilliant. And all the little references made my shippery mind asplode with the goodness. "The back of his car doesn't count"...bwahahaha
Owen: See above
Tosh: Well this was really Tosh's episode, wasn't it? I felt quite bad for her, she seems really insecure with herself and that is suckmonkeys. Poor Toshi. And she fancies Owen, bless her.
Ianto: I want to squishmondo Ianto. I really do. Bless him with his angst. I just wanna give him a hug. SOMEONE GIVE HIM A HUG DAMMIT!! "Please, don't let it happen again"

Point the Second-Plot
Well. I liked it, I really did. And it was cleverly done, with the start and all that. But it just seemed to be lacking something, and I can't quite work out what. I thought that the character relationships we saw develop during this episode, especially Tosh/Jack, Tosh/Owen and Owen/Gwen were very well written, but this possibly affected the plot in a few places.
And oh, the 2 million hour long aerial shot of Cardiff at the end? Was that REALLY NECESSARY!? Come on, they could have given us SUV!Sex instead of that (seriously, they could). Or even a token Rhys scene. For the first episode yet, there is NO BLOODY RHYS. And I need my Rhys fix, dammit!

Gwen/Owen-Bless her, she really doesn't think she's done owt wrong, does she? At least, that's the impression I get. But I thought the skinny/wiry bit at the start was cute, and so was the bit where they were trying to fix Tosh's computer. But I'm just worried that Owen's gonna hump her (some more) and then dump her. Please, Owen, for the love of the shippery fangirls, DON'T DO IT!
Jack's token ship of the week: Tosh. He's well making his way through the group isn't he? First Gwen, then Ianto, now he's worked his way on to Tosh. Methinks it'll get a bit extreme when it gets to Jack/Suzie...which brings me on to...
